General Manager & Assistant Winemaker, Tom Garrett

Assistant winemaker and general manager Tom Garrett brings to Revana Family Vineyard a blend of experience and expertise in winery management and winemaking.

Tom began his official career in the wine business at Wine Spectator magazine, where he spent five years as the West Coast Tasting Coordinator. His unofficial career began, he says, with early experience helping his mother make “garage” wines from their family vineyard in Napa Valley. Tom’s family has been growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in Oakville since 1952.

While he was writing about the California wine industry and managing the tasting department at Wine Spectator, Tom had the opportunity to taste nearly every wine being made in California. He eventually began to feel that making wine would be more fulfilling than writing about it. He left and began a five-year apprentice tour that took him from Turley Wine Cellars in St. Helena through Joseph Phelps Winery and on to Robert Mondavi Winery.

Tom says Revana Family Vineyard is an ideal winemaking environment combining an all-star team with a fantastic vineyard and the best winemaking tools. He adds that Revana Family Vineyard winemaker Heidi Peterson Barrett is greatest of a string of great teachers/winemakers that he has worked with.
