History

Dr. Madaiah Revana immigrated from India to the United States in the early 1970's as a young and ambitious Med School student. Since then, he has worked tirelessly to become a leader in the cardiology community for over 40 years, honing his skills and building a highly respected reputation.

He balances his successful cardiology practice in Houston, Texas with his commitment to the Revana Wine Portfolio. Today, he is the only immigrant from India to own three wineries that have all been featured on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 lists and are highly acclaimed.

 

1997

Land acquisition

Dr. Madaiah Revana purchases two residential parcels of prime unplanted land just North of the city of St. Helena and combines them into 10 contiguous acres to create the Revana Estate Vineyard Site. He hires the top vineyard manager in Napa Valley, Jim Barbour, to plant and manage the grapes.

Revana Vineyard planted

Using soil analysis to strategize the optimal vineyard plan, Jim Barbour and his team plant the 8.2-acre Revana Estate Vineyard

2000

Winery Concept and Design

Architect Howard Backen commissioned to design the Revana Winery, working with Heidi Peterson Barrett to create her dream winery.

2001

First vintage of Revana Estate Cabernet

Just under 1,000 cases are crafted by consulting winemaker, Heidi Peterson Barrett.

2005

Alexana Is Established in the Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills AVA in Oregon

Dr. Revana purchases 80 acres and plants a 55-acre Estate Vineyard to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling, and hires Lynn Penner-Ash as consulting winemaker.

2008

Corazon del Sol established in the Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina

Dr. Revana purchases and plants 11 acres of prime vineyard land in the Uco Valley, Mendoza, to a diverse selection of grapes such as Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre. Santiago Achával is hired as consulting winemaker.

2010

Awarded the #4 Spot On Wine Spectator’s Top 100 List

The 2007 Revana Estate Cabernet scores 97 points and is named #4 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2010. It is also the #1 highest-rated Cabernet Sauvignon in the world for the 2007 vintage.

2011

Transition of Two Great Minds

After the 2010 harvest, Heidi Peterson Barrett steps down as Revana’s consulting winemaker, leaving a deep-rooted influence on Revana’s reputation. In early 2011, Thomas Rivers Brown joins Revana as consulting winemaker, bringing a fresh perspective and proven track record of superlative winemaking abilities. He completes the 2010 vintage blends and bottles this wine in June 2011.

2012

First vintage of Revana ‘Block 6’ Cabernet, Howell Mountain Cabernet, and Terroir Series Cabernet

Under the guidance of Thomas Rivers Brown, Revana refines the Estate Cabernet Program by separating the 4 northern estate blocks from the 4 southern estate blocks increasing the quality and expanding the breadth of offerings. At the same time, Revana is offered the opportunity to acquire fruit from the famed Cold Springs Vineyard on Howell Mountain and decides to craft a site-specific, single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.

2015

First vintage of Revana Stag’s Leap District Cabernet

In a continued pursuit to express terroir of the greatest sites in Napa Valley, Revana is offered a long-term grower partnership with the historic Steltzner Vineyard in the Stag’s Leap District.

2016

First vintage of Revana Rutherford Cabernet

Thomas Rivers Brown discovers a promising vineyard, Ithaca Vineyard, in the famous Rutherford bench region in Napa Valley.

2017

Awarded the #93 Spot On Wine Spectator’s Top 100 List

The 2014 Revana Estate Cabernet scores 96 points and is named #93 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2017.

2019

Geoff Davies is hired as Winemaker

Geoff Davies joins the Revana winemaking team from Outpost Wines, having worked closely with Thomas Rivers Brown in his previous role at Outpost, Geoff brings a wealth of experience and valuable perspective.
